Ways to Get Involved

There are many ways to get involved with the Social Justice Learning Institute initiatives. Check out the volunteer opportunities below or get in touch for more.

Empowering through Eduction

  • Assist students in collecting data for Youth Participatory Action Research (YPAR) projects
  • Conduct workshops with youth to share skills, knowledge and career opportunities.
  • Assist our Peer Educators in providing Healthy Eating & Active Living classes and expose community members to ways to improve their health and well-being.

Creating Thriving Communities

  • Volunteer in our network of gardens to create access to healthy, affordable fruits and vegetables to the local community.
  • Join us at our monthly Food For Thought Produce Pickup, and help distribute hundreds of pounds of free, fresh produce to the public.

Changing Systems

  • Join our organizing efforts to advance housing justice to Inglewood.
  • Advocate for policies that disrupt the school-to-prison pipeline and stop mass incarceration.
  • Get involved in health and environmental justice advocacy at the local, regional and state level.

Joining the SJLI family means working with a passionate team who believes in the potential of everyday people to transform the world around them. It means empowering communities of color to succeed as scholars and unlock their ability to transform their world. It means creating alternative food systems in neighborhoods lacking healthy options and equipping residents with tools for living healthier lives. It means building capacity for community members to identify and rectify injustice so that they can advocate for policies that address their needs.
